The \u201cSci\u00f2 Sci\u00f2\u201d, also known as the Neapolitan Hunchback, is one of the most distinctive figures of Neapolitan popular tradition, traditionally associated with superstition and good luck.<\/p>\n
According to ancient Neapolitan beliefs, the Sci\u00f2 Sci\u00f2 brings well-being, wealth and prosperity. To ward off the evil eye and negative influences, the figure spreads incense from its characteristic perforated \u201cbuatta\u201d container, repeatedly reciting the traditional Neapolitan blessing formula:<\/p>\n
“Uocchio, maluocchio\u2026 funecelle all\u2019uocchio\u2026 aglio, fravaglio, fattura ca nun quaglia, corne e bicorne, cape \u2018e alice e cape d\u2019aglio.”<\/p>\n
